I have to concede that really what this all comes down to relies on very well researched speculation. The conceptual foundation of L’Enfant’s design, based on mathematical principles used by the ancients, has remained a complete unknown for two hundred years until Mann’s book. But the case Mr. Mann presents is logical and so internally consistent, and goes so far beyond what other writers have uncovered. L’Enfant must have been absolutely giddy with excitement to see the synchronicity at work here.
